Born: May 17, 1865 in Canal Dover, OH
Died: May 7, 1905 in Parkersburg, WV
Al was the principal starter for the last two years of the Metropolitans' history, but to say he was their "ace" may be a bit of a reach. Those last two years, the Mets were pretty bad, and the pitching was no exception. Still, you have to tip your cap to someone who averaged 31 losses a year for a seventh-place team, and was still willing to take the ball every second or third day.
