Chief Zimmer ranks as the final Metropolitan alphabetically. He was also the last of the old Mets still playing in the big leagues--the only one to make it into the 1900s. He was also the last living of the original Mets, not passing on until nearly 1950, by which time several of the next generation of Metropolitans were already active in the big leagues. Chief was only scantly a Met at all, playing less than half of one per cent of his career games for the New Yorkers, but a Met he was once, and a Met he will be forevermore. His Old Judge card is pictured here, courtesy of the Library of Congress. Another Old Judge card is pictured below; it also is most definitely not in my collection.
