If it hadn't been for the fact that Pedro's most effective pitching years had been spent in the wispy air of Colorado, he would probably have been more widely recognized as one of the best pitchers in the National League at the turn of the century. The Mets hoped that his suspect shoulder would hold up, and that he could show baseball fans what they probably missed due to that 5.00+ Colorado ERA, but alas--too late.
