A former first-round draft pick by the Yankees, Brian was signed as a free agent in August 2004 after refusing a minor-league assignment from the Padres. It was hoped that he would provide some stability to the Mets' injury-depleted lineup, but he only accounted for four plate appearances with the New Yorkers.
