Acquired: traded from the Cleveland Indians for Reid Cornelius and Ryan Thompson, March 1996
Departed: sent to the Chicago Cubs to complete an earlier deal, August 1997; the Mets had traded Lance Johnson and two players to be named later (Clark and Manny Alexander) to the Cubs for Brian McRae, Mel Rojas, and Turk Wendell

 

Mark was on his way to a fairly successful big-league career, posting a .618 winning percentage for the five-year span from 1993-97, winning a total of 55 games over that period. Something happened. Over the next three years, for the Cubs and Rangers, he posted a record of 15 wins, 26 losses, and a gigantic ERA of 6.10. Oh well, those were five pretty good years before that. He's pictured here before any of that took place, on an autographed 1992 Bowman card. He's shown below during his most successful year with the Mets on 1996 Fleer.
