Mardie Cornejo

Nieves Mardie Cornejo
Batted: Right
Threw: Right
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 200 lbs.
Born: August 5, 1951 in Wellington, KS
Drafted: 21st round 1973 by the Mets
Departed: traded to the Detroit Tigers for Ed Glynn, March 1979

Mardie was actually drafted four times before he signed; twice by the Washington Senators and twice by the Mets. He pitched very effectively in his only major-league season. He appeared on a couple of oddball card issues, but was never a part of a mainstream set; he is shown here on his 1978 TCMA Tidewater Tides card. Mardie's son Nate also made it to the big leagues as a pitcher with the Detroit Tigers in the late 1990s.
