There was much skepticism regarding Ramon in the spring of 2005. The Mets had just jettisoned popular veteran Vance Wilson in favor of someone who had just batted .135, and had only batted above .200 in three of six major-league seasons. But this former first-round draft pick won the respect of Met fans, as he proved to be a fine defender and a clutch-hitting replacement for oft-injured Mike Piazza. Pictured here is a 1995 Stadium Club card, showing him as an Astros prospect years before he made it to the major leagues. There is another photo below.
