A Mets coach in 1964, Mel was a celebrated All-Star pitcher during his playing days, and was recognized as one of the all-time heroes of the Cleveland Indians. Here is a 1994 Conlon Collection card commemorating his appearance in the 1934 All-Star game. Another card is shown below.
