Steve Henderson
Stephen Curtis Henderson
Batted: Right
Threw: Right
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 190 lbs.
Born: November 18, 1952 in Houston, TX
Drafted: 5th round 1974 by the Cincinnati Reds
Acquired: traded from the Reds with Doug Flynn, Dan Norman, and Pat Zachry for Tom Seaver, June 1977
Departed: traded to the Chicago Cubs with cash for Dave Kingman, February 1981
Steve was the best position player that the Mets got in exchange for Tom Seaver in 1977, but it's not as if anything could have been enough! Steve had a fairly good big-league career, though. In his first taste of big-league action, he led the Mets in home runs and runs batted in, while appearing in less than 100 games! Unfortunately, despite several more seasons as a regular player, he never surpassed those figures. He's pictured here on his 1981 Kellogg's card, and a couple more oddball cards are shown below.
