Lance's game featured good defense, good baserunning, and good hitting, but the area where he was absolutely unparalleled during his big-league tenure was in stroking three-base hits; Lance was a triple machine. The Mets were fortunate enough to have him in their employ when he had his career year in 1996. He led the club with his 117 runs scored, 227 hits, 327 total bases, 50 steals, .333 batting average, and (of course) 21 triples. A couple of these are club records that are still standing. And, including everybody who has ever had at least 1,000 plate appearances with the Mets, nobody has ever hit higher for New York than Lance's career .326.
