Mike Jacobs
Michael James Jacobs
Batted: Left
Threw: Right
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 200 lbs.
Born: October 30, 1980 in Chula Vista, CA
Drafted: 38th round 1999 by the Mets
Departed: traded to the Florida Marlins with Grant Psomas and Yusmeiro Petit for Carlos Delgado and cash, November 2005
Called up from Binghamton in August 2005 when Mike Piazza broke a bone in his wrist, Jacobs--an outstanding minor-league hitter--smashed a three-run homer in his first major-league at-bat. Because of that home run, his expected return to the minor leagues was delayed, and he went on to break records for home-run proficiency for both the Mets and all-time baseball history: No one ever reached four career home runs in fewer at-bats than Mike. Pictured here is his card in the 2001 Topps Gallery set.
