Born: January 12, 1950 in Fullerton, CA

The rookie card for this two-time 20-game winner (shown here) has one of Topps' most famous errors on it. It was widely rumored after the 1973 season that the San Diego Padres franchise was going to be moved to Washington, D.C., which of course never happened. Nevertheless, the first printing of 1974 Topps cards showed all of the Padres playing for "Washington Nat'l Lea." instead of San Diego! This was corrected after it became clear that the Pads were staying put; there is also a "San Diego" version of this card. Two more cards are displayed below, showing a rather good version of Topps' famous air-brushing techniques of the pre-computer age.
