Art Shamsky
Arthur Louis Shamsky
Batted: Left
Threw: Left
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 175 lbs.
Born: October 14, 1941 in St.Louis, MO
Signed: 1959 by the Cincinnati Redlegs

Departed: traded to the St. Louis Cardinals with Jim Bibby, Rich Folkers, and Charlie Hudson for Jim Beauchamp, Chuck Taylor, Harry Parker, and Chip Coulter, October 1971
Art put up a few outstanding numbers during his career in the big leagues; notably, he smashed 21 homers in only 234 at-bats for the Reds in 1966, and he batted .300 for the Miracle Mets in 1969 with good power. Since his retirement, he has been a popular promoter for events featuring the 1969 Mets, and is an enthusiastic signer. The postcard pictured below (from Ron Lewis' 1994 set) was autographed by Art. The card shown here at the top is from 1970 Topps.
