What a shame. A Hall-of-Fame talent. But a completely undisciplined individual, at least as far as being able to resist the allure of drug abuse and moral vice. In the first eight seasons that Darryl started the year in the big leagues, he was named to the NL All-Star team. No Mets fan of the '80s will be able to forget the sight of Straw's follow-thru, as he launched another majestic home run deep into right field. But after that last All-Star season, he never got as many as 300 at-bats again, despite lasting in the big leagues for eight more years. And now Darryl will always be remembered as the morally bankrupt shell of a man who was arrested so many times for drug violations and threatened suicide, instead of the superstar who played on multiple World Championship clubs and courageously overcame cancer. What a shame. Darryl's 1984 Donruss rookie card is shown here, and several more are pictured below.
