Joe was one of the really superb relievers in the National League up to the point of a disabling arm injury in 1982. In the three-plus seasons immediately before his long stint on the disabled list, he compiled a composite earned run average of 1.88! He attempted to come back, but was not the same pitcher afterwards. I include this scan (from 1985 Topps Traded) just to prove that he did in fact pitch for the Mets. Another card from happier days with the Astros is shown below.
