Was obtained from the Athletics organization in the trade that sent David Justice to Oakland, and quickly got his first call to the big leagues to replace Satoru Komiyama, who had shut his finger in his garage door and had to be put on the disabled list. Tyler got sent back down to Norfolk before he had thrown a pitch with the Mets, however, and then he spent most of the rest of his season on the disabled list. The next season he was due for a September callup, and denied himself his big-league debut when he injured his hand at the end of the minor-league season. In 2004, though, he was the Mets' most dominant starter in Spring Training, and finally won his chance with the big club. His card from the 2002 Upper Deck Honor Roll set is shown here.
