Robert W. Tompkins, pastor

Cameron Mills and Rathbone
United Methodist Churches

Hi. I'm Bob Tompkins, and this is what you get for a pastor in a rural Methodist church: a middle-aged man with no seminary experience who works a fulltime job during the week, makes up a bulletin on Saturday, writes a sermon Sunday morning and preaches it just a couple of hours later. In fact, my qualifications for the ministry are so scant that it's all I can do just to hope that God Himself may have something to do with it.

I am currently studying for my local pastor's license, and I am somewhere along the road to obtaining it, though I'm not entirely sure where. But they keep on letting me preach every weekend, so I guess it's okay. My greatest theological influences come from the writings and teachings and musings of the Apostle Paul, St. Augustine, Martin Luther, John Calvin, C. S. Lewis, and Philip Yancey.

I've written a couple of books myself: epic fantasies that you can read about elsewhere. Additionally, Amazon.com has been kind enough to make some of my short stories available. You can look for yourself if you're interested.

When I was assigned the pastorate of Cameron Mills and Rathbone, I decided to do only two things there: To continually lift up and glorify the name of Jesus Christ alone, and to love the people. With God's grace and the help of the Holy Spirit, that's what we're doing.

My wife's name is Susan. She also has a fulltime job as a hairdresser in addition to her significant duties as the pastor's wife. She is (apart from God) the source of everything good about our shared ministry; she sings, she vacuums, she sends greeting cards. She loves.

If you have any questions or comments, drop me a line. If you're ever passing through Cameron Mills or Rathbone at 9:30 Sunday morning, stop in and see us. If we're not at one of the churches, we're at the other one!
